Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Vinyl and CD Soundtrack Release

Music has been central to Final Fantasy since the series began in 1987. Across sixteen mainline entries and countless spin-offs, the RPG franchise has used music to amplify emotional moments and stories. As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Square Enix has announced a soundtrack that spans the whole series.

The Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Crystal Edition album will come on vinyl and CD. It includes music from all sixteen mainline games and is set for release on Jan. 6, 2027. The official album site describes the role of music in the series: “Whether it be the first steps on an epic journey, the act of bonding with your friends, battles with nigh insurmountable odds, or emotional farewells, the music of Final Fantasy has not only helped bring incredible scenes to life, it has provided generations of players with everlasting memories.”

Both formats are open for pre-order on Square Enix’s Japanese storefront. The vinyl costs 8,000 yen ($51) plus tax and holds two 12-inch records. The single-disc CD costs 3,600 yen ($23) plus tax. Square Enix will also sell both versions on its North American and European storefronts soon, though those listings are not yet up.

Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Crystal Edition album complete tracklist

Choosing the tracklist must have been a big task. I would struggle to narrow any game’s soundtrack down to one song. How do you pick between “Aerith’s Theme” and “One-Winged Angel” in Final Fantasy 7? And that is only one of sixteen games. Somehow Square Enix managed it, presumably after many impassioned debates.

Here is the complete tracklist for the album:

• Main Theme — Final Fantasy
• Rebel Army Theme — Final Fantasy 2
• Eternal Wind — Final Fantasy 3
• Theme of Love — Final Fantasy 4
• Battle at the Big Bridge — Final Fantasy 5
• Searching for Friends — Final Fantasy 6
• One-Winged Angel — Final Fantasy 7
• Force Your Way — Final Fantasy 8
• You’re Not Alone — Final Fantasy 9
• To Zanarkand — Final Fantasy 10
• Ronfaure — Final Fantasy 11
• The Dalmasca Estersand — Final Fantasy 12
• Blinded by Light — Final Fantasy 13
• Torn from the Heavens — Final Fantasy 14
• Somnus (Instrumental Version) — Final Fantasy 15
• Away — Final Fantasy 16
