The sequel released earlier this year met with a chilly reception: players criticized the direction taken by Splitgate 2 after its June launch, and the title faced additional fallout following a controversial onstage segment by 1047 Games co-founder Ian Prolux. In response to the backlash, the studio withdrew the release and reverted the project to beta in July for substantial redesign work.

Now retitled Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, the game is set to relaunch as a free-to-play arena shooter on December 17, 2025. According to the developer’s announcement, this iteration refocuses on community-driven, arena-style gameplay. The relaunch removes the faction/ability systems introduced in Splitgate 2 and replaces the previous progression with a streamlined system intended to recapture the fast, competitive feel of the original Splitgate.

Design director Josh Watson explained the studio’s approach, saying the team rebuilt the experience from the ground up—keeping elements that worked, removing those that didn’t, and blending lessons from both prior entries to produce a purer arena shooter.

What’s new in Arena Reloaded

  • Five brand-new maps and six substantially reworked existing arenas.
  • Three new primary weapons plus a power weapon, the Railgun.
  • New Arena-specific game modes alongside Classic Arena, playlist selection, and an “even starts” mode that removes customizable loadouts for balanced matches.
  • A simplified battle pass, refreshed cosmetic offerings, and lowered store prices.

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For background on the earlier rollback and the studio’s comments, see the original coverage and the linked presentation.
