Spider-Man, Wolverine, and other “Earth’s Mightiest Survivors” Join the New Avengers
Marvel Comics is orchestrating a significant overhaul of its premier super-team. On Friday, the publisher unveiled the roster for its upcoming Avengers series, highlighting five heroes who will unite following the cataclysmic events of this summer’s Avengers: Armageddon. Joining the ranks in November’s Avengers #1 are Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), and Wolverine (Logan). While the initial lineup has been confirmed, Marvel suggests that additional members may join the fray as the story unfolds.
Traditionally known as “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” this fresh iteration carries the somber moniker “Earth’s Mightiest Survivors.” The title hints at the high stakes of Avengers: Armageddon, implying that not all of Marvel’s icons will emerge from the conflict unscathed. The event storyline centers on a coalition of heroes banding together to confront the Red Hulk (Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross), who has seized control of Doctor Doom’s sovereign nation, Latveria.
Writer Chip Zdarsky is helming Armageddon, collaborating with artists Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz. Zdarsky will also serve as the writer for the new Avengers ongoing series, reuniting with illustrator Marco Checchetto—a creative partnership famously responsible for one of the most critically acclaimed runs in modern Daredevil history.
“Following the fallout of Avengers: Armageddon, this team is battle-hardened, furious, and determined to exact justice,” Zdarsky noted in a press release. “The Avengers title should be the heartbeat of the Marvel Universe—a place where monumental shifts occur and where readers can expect constant, high-stakes surprises.”
While specific narrative beats remain under wraps to preserve the secrets of Armageddon, the announcement underscores that “Earth itself needs to be avenged.” This new squad must navigate a world that has grown deeply suspicious of their motives, setting the stage for a gritty and volatile summer event.
Avengers: Armageddon makes its debut on June 10, with the subsequent Avengers ongoing series hitting shelves on November 4.
