Sony Reportedly Recovers Decima Engine from Kojima Productions
Hideo Kojima’s studio has completely lost access to Sony technology, which could seriously impact the development of Physint.
After Sony Interactive Entertainment declined to participate in the development of Physint, Kojima Productions may face another major problem because the studio likely can no longer use the Decima game engine, which was used to create both parts of Death Stranding.
Decima was also reportedly used during motion capture work for Physint.

Decima holds special significance for Kojima Productions. Back in 2017, Hideo Kojima himself shared with the PlayStation Blog that Guerrilla Games had provided his team with the engine’s source code. Specialists from the two studios then jointly developed the technology while working with a single code base. Death Stranding was built on a modified version of Decima, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach followed later.
Furthermore, Kojima Productions’ reliance on Decima was not just a formality. In February 2026, studio technical director Akio Sakamoto explained in an interview with AUTOMATON why the team continued using the engine for nearly a decade.
If the information from Forbes is confirmed, Kojima Productions will have to completely transfer Physint to a new engine, which will significantly increase the project budget and development timeline.
However, Kojima Productions will not face any issues with the horror game OD, given that the project was originally built on Unreal Engine 5.
