Silksong’s Release Date Was Decided Just Weeks Before Launch — Team Cherry Reveals Details
Hollow Knight: Silksong co-directors Ari Gibson and William Pellen discussed the strategy behind the sequel’s launch. They say the release date was decided only a few weeks before the rollout.
In some respects it was a bit frustrating. The release wasn’t tightly controlled — we didn’t even have the exact date until a week or two before the trailer dropped. Everything moved very quickly, and fan expectations were a factor as well.
Gibson also noted that the team worked right up to the final hours, rushing to complete the game.
By the time this article was published, the trailer announcing the release date had accumulated 17.5 million views.
