Hyperkin Prepares to Open Preorders for Mega95 Handheld for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive Cartridges
Hyperkin says mass production is beginning on the Mega95, its handheld console for original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges. The company also plans to share preorder details soon.
Hyperkin introduced the retro handheld in 2024.

The developers encountered several difficulties while creating the device. The latest was unsatisfactory product quality from a recent factory partner, one of the reasons for the lengthy release delay.
Hyperkin says research and development and community testing are now complete. Mass production is beginning, and the packaging design is being finalized.
Hyperkin also shared a video showing the console in hand and in use with its docking station. The dock connects the handheld to an HD television and has several controller ports, allowing the Mega95 to be used as a home console.
The video shows the 5-inch screen, which can switch between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, along with the device’s ergonomics, control layout, and docking process. The console is large and won’t fit in a pocket.

Hyperkin styled the device’s body after the Genesis and Mega Drive controller to evoke nostalgia and provide comfort during long gaming sessions.
