Unreal Engine 5.9 Preview Due Next Week as Epic Games Prepares AI Changes
Epic Games plans to release a preview of Unreal Engine 5.9 next week, with expanded AI integration that will allow AI tools to edit 3D scenes directly.
The update will be one of the last major stages in the development of the current engine generation before the expected transition to Unreal Engine 6 in 2027.
Epic Games plans to improve integration with Model Context Protocol, allowing AI tools to interact directly with the editor and make changes to 3D scenes. The tools will be able to participate directly in creating game environments, rather than simply assist developers.
Unreal Engine 5.9 will also add official support for deploying projects through a web browser. Epic promises improvements to existing tools and the engine’s overall stability.

The full list of changes has not yet been revealed, and more details about Unreal Engine 5.9 are expected soon. The expanded AI capabilities are sure to raise questions among some developers, as AI will be able to intervene directly in work on scenes under development.
