Should you give Buffo his juice jug in Mina the Hollower?

Should you hand over the juice jug to Buffo in Mina the Hollower? Buffo, the eccentric green frog, claims to thrive on “drinking pain,” but his signature Glutton’s Jug is currently parched. He insists that Mina replenish it by taking down his fellow creatures. While the task is demanding enough, the real dilemma unfolds once you return to him with the filled vessel.

Below, we cover how to locate Buffo, complete his unusual request, and—more importantly—what happens when you choose to relinquish the jug.

Finding Buffo and the Glutton’s Jug

You’ll encounter the hulking green frog at the base of a waterfall when you first enter Backwaters: Shanty Swamp (approaching from the Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge).

Engage him in conversation to receive the Glutton’s Jug. To proceed, equip this trinket and eliminate 50 enemies to fill it to the brim. Once the jug is brimming with “essence,” head back to Buffo. This triggers the pivotal choice: will you surrender the jug, or withhold it?

The Consequence of the Jug

If you decline to hand it over, Buffo will grumble, “C’mon, I really want it, don’t be like that!” but nothing further happens. You are free to keep it for now and return to satisfy his request whenever you’re ready.

If you decide to give him the jug, prepare for a fight—Buffo immediately turns hostile, wielding a paddle and launching slow-moving, albeit numerous, fireballs. While you can certainly attempt to flee, retreating to the larger arena just east of his location offers better mobility for tactical maneuvering.

Buffo is amphibious but cannot climb. If you want to study his patterns safely, scramble up the rope to the high ledge. By timing your movements, you can bait him into attacking, drop down for a quick strike, and retreat up the rope before he can retaliate.

After you’ve successfully enabled his dangerous habits and dealt with him, you’ll be rewarded with the Plasma Jug trinket, which increases your plasma intake from fallen foes.

Giving him the jug also results in unique dialogue later in the campaign. Though it doesn’t alter the game’s mechanics, the outcome is quite telling.

Once you’ve restored all six spark generators and arrive at Radiant Manor, Lionel will confront you, cataloging the various transgressions you’ve committed across Tenebrous Isle—one of which is handing that jug to Buffo, ultimately leading to his physical decline.

This narrative beat won’t impact your ending or core gameplay, but it certainly adds a layer of moral weight to your choices.
