The Batman Part 2 Filming Paused as Director Matt Reeves Steps Away

Warner Bros. and DC Studios have paused production on The Batman Part 2 while the film was in the middle of filming in London. According to a statement from DC Studios, filming stopped because director Matt Reeves needed to step away for a family matter.

Production on The Batman Part 2 has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter, DC Studios said (via Deadline). Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.

It remains unclear how long Reeves will be away or how long production will stay paused. Sources told Deadline that the studio cannot yet determine if the pause will affect the release date for The Batman Part 2, which is currently Feb. 18, 2028. The film has faced multiple delays, initially targeting an October 2025 theatrical release before moving to February 2028. If that schedule holds, nearly six years will separate the March 2022 release of The Batman from its sequel.

The Batman Part 2 plot details are mostly unknown

Reeves directed the first movie, which followed a young Bruce Wayne and Batman played by Robert Pattinson as he investigated murders committed by The Riddler, played by Paul Dano. The plot of the sequel is still under wraps, but audiences can expect the same gritty and grounded tone. Reeves refers to his Batman films and the spinoff series The Penguin as the Batman Epic Crime Saga.

The Batman Part 2 features returning cast members Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb and Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan may also return as the Joker, according to Variety. Sebastian Stan joins the cast as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson reportedly plays Harvey’s wife Gilda Dent, and Charles Dance may play Harvey’s father, Charles Dent.

Recent set photos sparked fan speculation that the Court of Owls and the minor villain Anarky might appear in the project. Reeves has previously stated that the villain for the sequel has never really been done in a movie before.
