CDPR Promises Official Fixes for The Witcher 3 Remastered on PS5

While the fantasy franchise is gearing up for an ambitious few years ahead, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered has encountered a few rocky hurdles upon arrival. Following its recent launch by CD Projekt Red, players—particularly those on PlayStation 5—have pointed out a wave of technical turbulence. According to community reports on Reddit, users are grappling with persistent frame rate drops, screen tearing, audio glitches, unexpected crashes, and stuttering environmental textures.

As Push Square highlights, the severity of these technical flaws varies wildly. While a fortunate subset of gamers is navigating the Continent without a hitch, others are dealing with such frequent application crashes that the game is effectively unplayable.

On Windows PC, the experience has been somewhat smoother, though not entirely without friction. A multitude of users faced heavy optimization drops tied to Ray Tracing and Nvidia Hairworks, leaving performance enthusiasts frustrated by the sudden inability to maintain a fluid frame rate. Consequently, Steam user reviews took a noticeable hit, with recent scores dipping to 79% positive compared to the title’s sterling 96% lifetime average. Even so, the remaster still managed to surge past 140,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. In response, CD Projekt deployed back-to-back hotfixes shortly after release to iron out graphics anomalies, save-file corruption, and sound synchronization errors.

Fortunately, CD Projekt has committed to resolving these console-specific bottlenecks, aiming to bring the PlayStation 5 experience closer to the stability found on PC. Via X (formerly Twitter), the developers outlined an upcoming wave of optimizations, putting performance enhancements squarely at the forefront. The studio is also preparing additional visual polish, resolving issues tied to My Rewards and Twitch Drops, rectifying console voiceover bugs, and expanding Ukrainian localization availability across both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Furthermore, expanded mod integration is on the horizon for all platforms via Mod.io. While an exact deployment date remains under wraps, these remedial patches are arriving with far greater agility than the tumultuous rollout witnessed during Cyberpunk 2077’s console debut.

What’s next for The Witcher?

CD Projekt Red originally conceptualized The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered as a gateway to prime audiences for the upcoming story expansion, Songs of the Past. This ambitious add-on is projected to mirror the robust scope of the critically acclaimed 2015 and 2016 expansions, offering anywhere between 15 to 30 hours of fresh gameplay. Songs of the Past will once again place players in the weathered boots of Geralt as he investigates a cryptic mystery rooted in Dandelion’s hometown of Letten, slated for a 2027 release. Looking further down the road, CD Projekt intends to launch the next major installment in the saga, The Witcher 4, in 2028. While narrative details remain tightly under wraps, the project is confirmed to center around Geralt’s adopted daughter, Ciri.
