Nikolai Komyagin, the visionary lead singer of the Russian experimental band Shortparis, has passed away at the age of 39.
The news was first broken by journalist Ksenia Sobchak and later confirmed by the artist’s manager, Marina Kosukhina. Komyagin reportedly suffered a fatal cardiac event following a boxing workout; his heart was unable to withstand the intense physical strain.
Born in Novokuznetsk in 1987, Komyagin co-founded Shortparis in 2012. The collective’s avant-garde soundscapes have been featured in a wide array of cinema, including titles such as Anna’s Feelings, Captain Volkonogov Escaped, Tchaikovsky’s Wife, and Limonov: The Ballad.
In addition to his musical legacy, Komyagin showcased his presence on screen with roles in Kirill Serebrennikov’s Leto and the television series Karamora.
