The Norwegian drama “Sentimental Value” has emerged as the front-runner in nominations for the European Film Awards.
Joachim Trier’s film (director of “The Worst Person in the World”) received mentions in the categories for Best European Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Stellan Skarsgård) and Best Actress (Renate Reinsve).
“Sentimental Value” follows two sisters who reunite with their father — a filmmaker who abandoned them in childhood. The film opens in Russian cinemas on November 20.
Several nominations also went to the Spanish entry “Sirat”, the German film “The Sound of Falling” and Jafar Panahi’s “Simple Accident” (a co-production of Iran, France and Luxembourg). The full list of nominees appears below.
The 38th European Film Awards ceremony will take place on January 17, 2026, in Berlin. Honorary awards will be presented to actress Liv Ullmann and director Alice Rohrwacher (“Chimera”).
