Sam Raimi turned down directing the new Spider-Man

Director Sam Raimi has officially put an end to the swirling rumors concerning his possible homecoming to the “Spider-Man” franchise.

While the filmmaker spent years developing a fourth installment centered on Tobey Maguire’s version of the hero, he explained to Screen Rant that a revival no longer aligns with the current state of the characters:

“Peter Parker and MJ (Mary Jane) have moved forward. It wouldn’t feel right for me to step back in and attempt to resurrect my specific iteration of that narrative.”

Raimi’s original trilogy, released between 2002 and 2007, remains a cinematic landmark, having grossed a collective $2.49 billion at the global box office. The web-slinger’s journey will continue under the Marvel Studios banner with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” set to debut in July 2026 with Tom Holland returning to the lead role.

As for Raimi, his next cinematic venture is the action-thriller “Send Help,” starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, which is scheduled for release in late January.
