Rumors indicate Microsoft may eliminate the multiplayer fee for the next-generation Xbox, closing the gap between PC Game Pass and the more expensive Ultimate tier.
Game Pass has seen numerous changes: Ultimate’s price rose to $30, two new subscription tiers were introduced, and Xbox Cloud Gaming was made available to everyone. PC Game Pass, however, has remained unchanged despite the price increases. This shift could make the Xbox ecosystem feel more like Windows, but how subscriptions will be affected is still uncertain.
According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, the proposal is to make multiplayer features available without an extra charge — a welcome move for fans of major online franchises such as Call of Duty and Battlefield. Yet it doesn’t completely resolve the decision between PC Game Pass and Ultimate, since PC Game Pass continues to offer Microsoft’s day-one releases at a lower price.
Corden also suggested Microsoft might roll out a similar update to PC Game Pass, possibly introducing an Ultimate-style option for PC with exclusive benefits. The current bundle already includes Ubisoft+ Classics and in-game bonuses for League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Rainbow Six Siege, but the specifics remain unclear.
