Rockstar Approached Netflix for GTA VI Broadcast in 2026
Rockstar Games initiated the recent Grand Theft Auto VI presentation partnership with Netflix rather than the streaming service making the first move.
The Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase presentation debuted on Netflix before appearing on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel six hours later.
Some players initially assumed that Netflix approached the creators of GTA VI with a business proposal, such as paying for temporary exclusivity to attract subscribers. However, the idea came from Rockstar itself rather than the owners of the streaming service.
A Rockstar PR representative explained in an interview with Kinda Funny Games: “We wanted to reach out to Netflix ourselves.”

The brief answer raises additional questions. Observers suggest that marketers wanted to introduce Grand Theft Auto VI to a broader audience, as the Netflix broadcast could capture the attention of people who do not typically play such projects.
Streams Charts metrics indicate that 9,038 streamers covered the Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase broadcast, generating approximately 5,227,798 total hours watched.
The GTA VI presentation outperformed Summer Game Fest 2026, which peaked at 3.81 million viewers, alongside Nintendo Direct and State of Play shows.

GTA VI is scheduled for release on November 19 of this year for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not yet shared any information regarding a release window for the PC version.
It appears the developers successfully reached an audience that typically does not engage with such video games, though that outcome is not always positive.
