For Requiem, Capcom has chosen not to bring back the burly Leon Kennedy, instead introducing newcomer Grace Ashcroft and placing a stronger emphasis on survival than ever before. That said, the game will still deliver signature boss encounters and a varied arsenal.
In an interview, game director Kōshi Nakanishi clarified that while boss fights will return, the core focus is on exploration and clever problem‑solving. Players will gradually extend their area of investigation within confined environments and overcome obstacles, rather than simply staging flashy shootouts like in conventional shooters.
This design mirrors Grace Ashcroft’s character arc. The developers want newcomers and players who are uneasy with intense scares to empathize as she confronts the horrors. In Resident Evil, frightened characters typically grow stronger over time. Grace is initially terrified, but circumstances force her to pull herself together and stand against the threats — and sharing that progression with her is one of the game’s central appeals.
Combat plays a key role in Grace’s development. Promotional materials and trailers show her using pistols and revolvers, signaling her readiness to fight and underscoring the evocative image of a delicate figure wielding a sturdy revolver. Beyond firearms, knives and other close‑quarters weapons are also available.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
