Reports Say Microsoft Wants to Sell Halo, World of Warcraft, and The Elder Scrolls Film Rights for $300 Million
Netflix, Paramount, and Universal are already reviewing the proposal.
Microsoft has put a single rights package for the film and television adaptations of more than a dozen Xbox gaming franchises up for sale. According to Puck journalist Matthew Belloni, the company is looking for a single partner and expects to secure a long-term agreement valued at over $300 million.
The package reportedly includes Halo, World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, and Diablo, though the complete list of franchises remains unknown. Judging by previously announced projects, the package will likely exclude Fallout, which is being adapted by Amazon; Call of Duty, tied to Paramount; and Gears of War, for which Netflix is preparing films and an animated series. Sea of Thieves, announced for a film adaptation in June, is being developed by Xbox in partnership with Hisako Films, the production company of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Netflix, Paramount, and Universal are already reviewing the offer. According to Puck, the requested sum caused at least one potential buyer to question the viability of the deal. Representatives from all three companies, as well as Microsoft, declined to comment on the information.
