Heart Machine has initiated another round of layoffs this month, mere weeks before the studio’s upcoming action title, Possessor(s), is scheduled to launch on November 11. Earlier in October the team confirmed it had cut an unspecified number of roles and ceased development on its Early Access project, Hyper Light Breaker.
Reporting from Game Developer indicates that at least four former Heart Machine employees were let go this week, based on Bluesky posts dated October 28 and 29. The full extent of the layoffs — including how many staff were affected earlier this month — remains unclear. A former developer posted a video describing that the studio “laid off a bunch more people, effective immediately,” and expressed doubt that those who worked on Possessor(s) will still be at the company when the game ships.
Game Informer extends its support to everyone affected by these staffing changes and the uncertainty they bring.
