Release of ‘Medieval’ Strategy for Stronghold Fans Delayed — Age of Respair Creators Won’t Miss Their Only Chance at Success

The team behind Age of Respair has moved the release to 2026. The title is a medieval real-time strategy that blends city-building mechanics and was first announced in October 2024.

While the Stronghold series remains a cult classic, few genuine alternatives have emerged over the years.

Respair Games initially planned to launch the project before Christmas 2025, but determined that additional time is necessary for refinement. The studio’s official statement emphasizes their aim to deliver a fully finished, well-balanced, and optimized game with upgraded visuals.

Recognizing they have only one shot at success, the developers chose a “delay to perfect” approach. At the same time, they intend to run a closed test for a limited group of players and release a demo that showcases the game’s core features.
