When the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled in 2025, it brought plenty of astonishment, but none quite matched the revelation of The Duskbloods. Crafted exclusively for Nintendo’s new hardware by FromSoftware—the masterminds behind monumental dark fantasy epics like Dark Souls and Elden Ring—this multiplayer-focused venture is certainly a departure from traditional Nintendo fare. Originally slated to debut later this year, the studio has officially announced a postponement, pushing the release window into 2027.
According to an official statement shared via X, the delay stems primarily from a commitment to meticulous fine-tuning. Read the complete announcement below:
While development of “The Duskbloods” is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027. We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support. During the network test, we saw active interest in the core concepts of the game, including combat, strategic depth, and player expression. To further enhance these aspects, we have decided to move the launch, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing.
We participated in an early hands-on preview session earlier this year and walked away deeply impressed, a sentiment widely echoed following the title’s closed network test (at least during moments when the servers remained stable). Given the wealth of constructive community feedback, it comes as little surprise that the developers are implementing changes, though waiting until next year for those refinements to materialize is admittedly bittersweet.
To help bridge the gap until launch day, feel free to explore our comprehensive preview impressions or catch the video above featuring our live commentary over raw gameplay footage. You can also tune in as we dissect the project in depth on our dedicated podcast episode of The Game Informer Show.
