Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Is Now Streaming on Pluto TV
Quentin Tarantino has rarely approached the Western genre in a straightforward way. Instead, the director frequently adapts its rhythms, visual motifs, and tropes into his own style. Kill Bill merged spaghetti Western elements with martial arts cinema, while The Hateful Eight staged a tense, claustrophobic mystery inside a snowed-in cabin. Even Once Upon a Time in Hollywood explored Old West mythology through fading television actor Rick Dalton. Among these projects, Tarantino’s most commercially successful take on the genre continues to draw massive viewership more than a decade after its theatrical debut.
Django Unchained, the director’s 2012 revenge Western starring Jamie Foxx, currently ranks as the No. 1 movie on Pluto TV in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. The film spent roughly a month on the free streaming platform’s leaderboards before capturing the top position.
What is Django Unchained about?

Set shortly before the Civil War, the story follows Django (Foxx), an enslaved man liberated by German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz needs Django to identify several wanted brothers, leading the two into an effective partnership tracking outlaws across the frontier.
Django also pursues a personal mission to rescue his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), from whom he was forcibly separated. Their investigation eventually takes them to Candyland, a notorious Mississippi plantation run by the brutal Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Samuel L. Jackson co-stars as Stephen, Candie’s manipulative house slave.

The film combined classic spaghetti Western aesthetics with graphic action and a cathartic revenge narrative. Beyond earning nearly $450 million at the global box office, Django Unchained secured five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The production won two Oscars: Best Original Screenplay for Tarantino and Best Supporting Actor for Waltz.
The film’s performance on Pluto TV demonstrates the lasting appeal of Tarantino’s bold historical Western, showing that viewers are still eager to revisit the acclaimed hit.
