Publisher of FMV Games Featuring Asian Actresses Explains Rise in Genre’s Popularity in 2025

Sometimes Steam gamers’ attention is captured by women from the Asian region.

Steam users are increasingly noticing a genre many thought had been forgotten. FMV titles occasionally climb the charts.

Games of this kind are especially popular across Asia. Next year publisher 4Divinity plans to release Island of Hearts on Steam; production is being handled by the media conglomerate Titan Digital Media.

Island of Hearts features the widely followed model ms_puiyi (Siew Pui Yi / 24 million followers), as well as nahyunworld (Nahyun Kim / 993k followers).

Kit Liu — deputy CEO of GCL (the parent company of publisher 4Divinity) — noted that the market for romantic FMV projects expanded sharply in 2025, particularly in China and South Korea.

He partly credits that surge to the popularity of “micro-dramas” — short-episode series that usually run only a couple of minutes and are hugely popular in many parts of Asia, especially China.

In these FMV titles players can influence the narrative by making choices that affect the outcome.
