New God of War Game Officially Delayed Significantly
Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey, moving the PlayStation 5 exclusive from its planned February release to May 20, 2027. The spinoff will give players a new perspective on the world of God of War through the story of Faye.
In a statement on X, the studio thanked fans for their enthusiasm and said the additional development time will allow the team to add finishing touches and bring the game closer to its full potential. It also promised to share more updates soon.
Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, Kratos’ wife and the game’s titular heroine. Although Faye’s funeral opens 2018’s God of War, players did not meet her until God of War Ragnarök in 2022. Her standalone adventure was officially unveiled during the June State of Play presentation, following months of rumors.
What we know about God of War Laufey

Despite Faye’s death before the events of the 2018 game, God of War Laufey takes place alongside that title and its sequel. Her journey leads her to the Everywhen, an afterlife for gods, where she attempts to help Kratos and their son Atreus from beyond the grave.
Woll is joined by Jack Quaid as Phranque, a talking cube, and Perlina Lau as Rue. Christopher Judge also returns as Kratos, though he is likely to play a smaller part in Faye’s story.
The spinoff will also offer a different take on the series’ action. Faye’s fighting style is more acrobatic, with combat reminiscent of Devil May Cry. Among her abilities is a powerful punch that can knock an enemy’s soul out of its body.
Alongside Laufey, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that another mainline God of War game starring Kratos is in development. Amazon is also developing a live-action adaptation of the 2018 game, with Dave Bautista set to play Kratos.
God of War Laufey is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on May 20, 2027.
