“Privet semye” to get a sequel
Searchlight Pictures has officially greenlit a sequel to the beloved 2005 Christmas dramedy The Family Stone, according to a report from Deadline.
The original ensemble cast is set to reunite for the project, with the notable exception of Diane Keaton, who passed away in October 2025. Titled The Families Stone✱trans. The Families Stone, the film will feature returning stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes, Luke Wilson, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, and others.
Set two decades after the events of the original film, the story picks up following the passing of the family matriarch, Sybil Stone (Keaton). As the clan gathers once more for the holiday season, they are blindsided by a surprising revelation: their father (Nelson) has fallen in love and intends to introduce them to his new partner.
Production is slated to begin this autumn in New York City, though an official release date has yet to be announced. Tom Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original installment, is returning to helm the sequel and pen the script.
The first film followed Meredith (Parker) as she navigated her first, tension-filled introduction to her boyfriend Everett’s (Mulroney) eccentric and boisterous family. The original movie went on to gross $92 million worldwide, eventually earning its place as a modern holiday classic.
