Prequel Series ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Premieres Hundreds of Years Before Original Story
Fans did not have to wait for a second season to face ancient evil once again.
HBO Max has released a surprise special episode of the series “It: Welcome to Derry” titled “The History of Derry”.
The special is set hundreds of years before the events of the main series. The story follows three Indigenous teenagers living on the land where Derry would later be founded. They venture into the West Forest, where they encounter an ancient and malevolent spirit.
The special was directed by Tazbah Chavez, who worked on “Reservation Dogs”, with a script written by Cherie Dimaline and Jasmine Flournoy. The lead roles are played by Kiawentiio, who portrayed Katara in the Netflix series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, Morningstar Angeline, and Zahn McClarnon, known for “Dark Winds”.

“It: Welcome to Derry” serves as a prequel to the films by Andrés Muschietti. The first season focused on events in 1962, while the second season will transport viewers to 1935 during the Great Depression. Its plot will center on the annihilation of the Bradley gang, a group of bank robbers who stopped in the town for ammunition.
A release date for the second season has not been announced yet.
