Preloading for The Outer Worlds 2 Begins — File Sizes Revealed

The follow-up to Obsidian Entertainment’s 2019 RPG hit, The Outer Worlds, is arriving very soon. Players on Xbox Series X/S and PC (via the Microsoft Store) can already begin preloading.

According to XboxEra, the game takes up roughly 79.5 GB on consoles and 77.3 GB on PC, though the Steam listing indicates about 110 GB, so the final size could be larger.

While the studio has not officially confirmed that the project has “gone gold,” everything points to a release on October 29, 2025.

In The Outer Worlds 2, players assume the role of an Earth Directorate agent dispatched to the Arcadia system to investigate hazardous rifts. Along the way they’ll encounter three new factions — Auntie’s Choice, The Order of the Ascendant, and The Protectorate — and whether those groups become allies or adversaries will hinge on the player’s decisions.

The sequel introduces new companions with their own backstories who won’t always approve of the player’s choices, alongside broader, more expansive environments. The first major biome, Paradise Island, is expected to offer at least a dozen hours of exploration if you inspect everything carefully. Obsidian promises increased freedom in tackling quests and a wider array of ways to resolve them.
