Just one week into its lifecycle, Pokémon Pokopia has already cemented its status as one of the Nintendo Switch 2’s most dominant titles. Nintendo recently confirmed that the franchise spinoff surpassed 2.2 million units sold in its opening four days, with the Japanese market alone contributing 1 million of those sales.
This rapid commercial momentum places the game as the fourth best-selling release on the Switch 2 to date. It currently trails only Mario Kart World (14.03 million), Donkey Kong Bananza (4.25 million), and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A (3.89 million). While Kirby Air Riders holds the fifth spot with 1.76 million copies, it should be noted that its data only accounts for sales through the end of 2025. Regardless of how the numbers shift once 2026 data is finalized, Pokopia’s immediate entry into the top five is a significant milestone.
These figures are even more impressive given the steady stream of high-profile software Nintendo has provided for its new console. Switch 2 owners have enjoyed a nearly monthly cadence of major releases, ranging from full-scale sequels like December’s Metroid Prime 4 and February’s Mario Tennis Fever to substantial expansions, such as the Star-Crossed World update for Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
Within the broader context of the franchise, Pokémon Pokopia is outperforming the vast majority of its predecessors. As highlighted by industry expert Joe Merrick on X, it is one of only 13 spinoffs in the series’ history to break the two-million-copy threshold—no small feat considering the sheer volume of side projects released over nine generations.
The sudden rush of demand briefly exhausted physical inventory, leading Amazon to temporarily hike the price to $80. However, stock has since stabilized at major retailers, and Amazon has reverted to the standard $69.99 MSRP. The game’s success has also resonated on Wall Street; Bloomberg reports that Nintendo’s stock value climbed by over 10% following the sales announcement.
Beyond its financial achievements, the game has been a hit with critics and the community alike. Currently ranking among the best-reviewed titles on the Switch 2, Pokémon Pokopia maintains a strong score of 89 on both OpenCritic and Metacritic.
