PlayStation Fans Demand Sony Investigate Account Hacks, Suspect Company Employees
PlayStation owners have reported account breaches for several months, with some alleging that attackers gained access by adding unauthorized users to their “family group.” Some players suspect that someone inside Sony is helping the attackers.
The issue has come up during discussions of the company’s financial results. Sony CFO Lin Tao acknowledged “a series of incidents” during a recent session and said the company was taking them seriously:
We apologize to customers and stakeholders for the inconvenience. As for the specific details, the incidents vary in nature and we cannot disclose the details, but cyberattacks are becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated.

After a recording of the presentation appeared, a user known as @PSNINSIDE posted an “official demand for an immediate internal investigation into suspected corruption within PlayStation, account theft, and the unauthorized disclosure of confidential customer data.”
@PSNINSIDE pointed to listings for “thousands of PlayStation Network accounts and PSN IDs, including rare three- and four-character identifiers” on popular marketplaces, Telegram, and elsewhere.
The user also noted that some sellers claim to have access to or cooperate with PlayStation support employees. Those alleged accomplices are said to be able to share confidential customer data and help take over accounts.
@PSNINSIDE and other players are now demanding that Sony conduct an official internal investigation.
