Players Banned for Refunding the Steam Version of Escape From Tarkov

The issue traces back to a problem with the game’s launcher.

Players are reporting widespread account bans in Escape From Tarkov after requesting refunds for the Steam version of the extraction shooter.

Observers suggest the root cause is the Escape From Tarkov launcher: the game becomes linked to an account, so attempting to return to the shooter—even using a copy purchased from EFT’s official website—is being treated as a breach of the user agreement.

Some users claim the bans may be applied by IP address, meaning creating a new account won’t necessarily circumvent the blockade.

One affected player reportedly owned the $250 Unheard edition. He says he originally purchased EFT in 2019 and later bought the game again when the Steam version launched on Valve’s store. After realizing he didn’t need the duplicate copy, he refunded the Steam purchase—and was banned soon afterward. In his post he asks Battlestate to restore his account, but commenters note it’s unlikely he’ll reach support and jokingly suggest he just buy another Unheard edition.
