Peter Jackson, the visionary director behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, has officially completed the script for the sequel to The Adventures of Tintin. Jackson has confirmed that he intends to step into the director’s chair for this long-awaited follow-up.
[…] Fifteen years ago, Steven Spielberg directed the first Tintin film, which I produced. The original plan was for me to helm the second installment while Spielberg took on the producer’s role. It has taken us 15 years to reach this point—admittedly a bit behind schedule. However, Tintin is a timeless story. We have finally finished the script, and it is highly likely that this will be my next project as a director,
— Jackson shared in an interview with Gold Derby. He had previously alluded to his plans for the franchise at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where he was honored with an honorary Palme d’Or.
The Tintin franchise is adapted from the beloved Belgian comic series by Hergé, which chronicles the global exploits of a courageous young investigative reporter. Spielberg’s 2011 feature, The Secret of the Unicorn, was a commercial success, grossing $373 million at the worldwide box office.
Jackson’s last major feature film was 2014’s The Battle of the Five Armies, the conclusion to The Hobbit trilogy. Since then, he has focused on documentary filmmaking, including They Shall Not Grow Old and The Beatles: Get Back. Jackson is also currently involved in the screenplay for the upcoming Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, which began production in New Zealand earlier this summer.
