Pedro Pascal Had a “Diabolical” Rival for the Role of Reed Richards in “Fantastic Four: First Steps”
The Lucifer star revealed he came close to being cast as Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Tom Ellis, best known for his lead role in Lucifer, said he auditioned for the part of Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Square Mile, the actor admitted he was among a small group of contenders who were asked to submit a screen test for the film “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which was released in July.
“There was a small group of actors asked to submit a tape for the role. I was waiting for the right opportunity, and when I looked at Reed Richards’ portrayal in the comics I thought, ‘This might be it.’ We do have a bit of a resemblance.”
Ultimately, the role of Mr. Fantastic went to Pedro Pascal. Ellis took the news in good humor — “To be honest, he doesn’t have much free time,” he quipped — and added that he believes Pascal was a brilliant choice.
“Fantastic Four: First Steps” serves as the opening chapter of Phase Six of the MCU. The story follows the hero team from an alternate reality as they confront the Silver Surfer and Galactus.
