Resident Evil (2026): Story, Cast, Trailer and Release Date

Paul Walter Hauser is part of the cast of Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film, but the project has moved well beyond its original casting announcement. Sony Pictures has now released a teaser, an official synopsis and a theatrical date: September 18, 2026.

What Resident Evil is about

The film tells a new story rather than presenting a direct adaptation of a named game. Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier who is pulled into a race for survival as one horrifying night collapses into chaos around him. The official synopsis does not yet identify the city, the outbreak’s cause or how the other announced characters fit into Bryan’s journey.

Sony describes the movie as a reinvention of the franchise. That wording matters because the earlier live-action films and the games have separate continuities; until the studio publishes more detail, specific claims about returning heroes, villains or timelines would be speculation.
