Path of Exile 2 developers accelerate gameplay development and ditch towers — endgame update arriving earlier than expected

Players were irritated by having to search for towers, and that feedback has been taken into account.

The Path of Exile 2 team published a short developer note outlining changes for the upcoming patch. They opted to roll out several mechanical adjustments before the 0.4.0 release.

As of patch 0.3.1, towers are no longer required to use plaques; plaques can now be inserted directly into the cartographer’s device so their bonuses apply straight to maps.

Effects that coat the ground in frozen/shocked/ignited terrain will now affect a much smaller area. At least 66% of current ground-covering effects will be removed, with an even greater reduction on lower-tier map stones.

This may also make some runs more difficult — the team adjusted how map effects interact with bosses:

“We fixed several issues where map boss difficulty didn’t impact many multi-form bosses, so a number of maps with lethal bosses will now be harder as a result.”

The update is scheduled to be released next week.
