Parker Finn won’t direct the “Smile” threequel
Paramount Pictures has officially initiated development on the third installment of the psychological horror franchise “Smile.” Steering the project will not be franchise creator Parker Finn, but rather David Bruckner, acclaimed for his work on “The Ritual,” “The Night House,” and the 2022 revival of “Hellraiser.” The screenplay will be penned by Nick Antosca, creator of the upcoming series “Cape Fear.”
Finn will transition to a producer role for the threequel, collaborating alongside Temple Hill Entertainment. He also conceived the overarching storyline for the third chapter. Currently, the filmmaker is busy helming a remake of the 1981 horror classic “Possession,” starring Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner.
Plot specifics and casting details for “Smile 3” remain under wraps. In the preceding films, a malevolent curse was passed from one unfortunate victim to another amid harrowing psychological torment. The inaugural movie featured Sosie Bacon as therapist Rose Cotter, while the sequel starred Naomi Scott as beleaguered pop icon Skye Riley.
To date, the franchise has grossed upwards of $350 million worldwide at the box office.
