Nintendo Reveals Set Photos of Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda Movie

Though audiences won’t see it until May 7, 2027, production has officially begun on a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo has confirmed that filming is underway, offering the franchise’s central figures — Link and Princess Zelda — their first on-screen, live-action portrayals.

Newly released stills, made available through the Nintendo Today app, show the characters in costumes that appear to draw clear inspiration from 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The movie’s storyline remains under wraps, so whether it will follow that game’s narrative or chart its own course is still unknown. Preview images are included below.

While these photos mark the first official reveals, they follow an earlier leak: a low-resolution image of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth in Link’s outfit surfaced online over the weekend on November 15, 2025, and quickly circulated among fans.

The film casts Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor) as Link and Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell) as Princess Zelda. No further casting has been confirmed publicly, though many expect some incarnation of Ganon — possibly Ganondorf in human form — to appear. Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is attached to the project as director.

The Legend of Zelda will be Nintendo’s third theatrical release from its current slate: following 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy film, Zelda is set to reach theaters on May 7, 2027.
