Nikita Buyanov Tells Escape from Tarkov Fans to Relax Following Backlash Over Knockdown Mechanic

Battlestate Games recently revealed a preliminary update roadmap outlining plans for Escape from Tarkov. The studio’s schedule includes a series of patches, a game engine update, technical improvements, new content featuring a new map and the Guide boss, alongside a controversial new gameplay mechanic.

According to the roadmap, December will introduce ally healing, knockdown, and revive systems. The developers did not provide extensive details during the initial announcement, which quickly triggered concern across the community, as other extraction shooters already allow players to be revived even after taking a headshot.

Player reactions across community channels reflected widespread skepticism:

  • “Once knockdowns are introduced, Tarkov will go straight to the same trash heap as Arena” (referring to Arena Breakout: Infinite).
  • “Knockouts are the worst thing that can happen in this genre. [Arena Breakout] died partly because of this. Colorful anime skins aren’t even as bothersome as being unable to kill an enemy […] and having them revived ten times per fight. When you’re solo against four opponents, it becomes four times as absurd.”
  • “This is literally a dumb addition, and it is especially bad for solo players… It feels like you do not think at all before adding this kind of nonsense. This crap should have been added to the game years ago if you planned to do it at all, not almost a year after the ‘full release’.”

Some players have suggested dividing the player base between classic and hardcore rule sets:

Split the game into two clients—just like Blizzard did with WoW Classic Hardcore and retail for casuals,

Battlestate Games head Nikita Buyanov addressed the backlash on social media, clarifying how the mechanic will function and urging players to stay calm. He emphasized that headshots will remain lethal:

Guys, relax. This will be a normal and realistic mechanic. If you get shot in the head, you will die. There will be a chance you lose consciousness from severe injuries, heavy blood loss, and so on.

The studio has not released gameplay footage of the knockdown system yet, leaving the written description as the only official detail.
