Next Borderlands 4 Story Expansion to Release in October

Gearbox Software and 2K have announced that the second story expansion for Borderlands 4, titled Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort, will launch on September 10. Gearbox plans to share more details about the release on September 3.

The expansion adds a fresh storyline, a tropical setting, new enemies, high-tier loot, and a playable Vault Hunter. The narrative takes place on Providence, a remote island next to an active volcano. Originally built by the Timekeeper as an elite resort, the island has devolved into a conflict zone. The Tediore corporation has deployed an expeditionary force there to secure a valuable resource called ordonite. Players team up with returning Borderlands 3 Vault Hunter FL4K to rescue his loyal skag, Mr. Chew.

Tediore brings a variety of hostile units to the island. Its forces include exoskeleton-equipped soldiers who keep fighting after losing their organic bodies, along with heavy mechs carrying different weapon loadouts. These mechs can buff allied units and call in mid-battle reinforcements. The campaign culminates in a confrontation with Lieutenant Harmony inside a fortified base that Tediore built into the volcano.

The Providence zone emphasizes vertical movement. Players can navigate the jungle using ziplines to reach positions above the tree canopies and gain combat advantages. The expansion also introduces raids on Tediore digiverse servers. In these encounters, players enter digital space to eliminate waves of enemies before they can materialize in the physical world.

Exploration rewards include new equipment, highlighted by two Pearlescent weapons and 18 Legendary items.

The expansion also debuts Loveless, a former Anshin hacker turned assassin. She relies on cybernetic implants and shares her consciousness with a custom digital virus that can manifest physically to fight alongside her.
