New Pokémon Series Set in Galar Coming to Disney+ in 2027

Disney and Pokémon have announced a new stop-motion animated series coming to Disney Plus in 2027. The project, titled Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, will premiere on Disney XD and stream exclusively on Disney Plus. A new trailer debuted on Friday during the Pokémon XP event in San Francisco as part of a wider effort to expand the franchise on Disney streaming platforms.

What is Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu?

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu comes from Aardman Animations, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep. The narrative tracks Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they travel through the Galar region, originally featured in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

In “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,” Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on an epic journey through the Galar Region. Together, they set out on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.

The collaboration between Aardman and Pokémon was originally announced in 2024. Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, discussed the partnership at the time:

Aardman and [The Pokémon Company] share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world.”

Pokémon expands on Disney streaming services

Alongside the upcoming stop-motion animated adventure series, the classic anime Pokémon the Series: The Beginning is available to watch on Disney Plus in the United States and select international markets. Viewers can stream season 1 on Disney Plus, while several later installments stream through Hulu, including season 20 (Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon), season 21 (Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures), and season 22 (Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Legends).

Phil Rynda, director of original animation for Pokémon, shared similar enthusiasm for the Galar-set production.
