New Naruto Anime Announcement Expected Soon
In March 2023, the Naruto franchise announced a special anime project to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The plan featured four newly animated episodes produced with modern animation standards. Studio Pierrot also released a 10-minute trailer revisiting iconic scenes with updated visuals, giving audiences a look at the upgraded animation style.
The four episodes were originally scheduled to air in September 2023. In August of that year, an official statement confirmed a delay to improve production quality. Official updates stopped after the postponement while Pierrot focused on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The long silence led to fan speculation that the strong reception to the preview trailer encouraged the studio to expand the project into a full remake.
Fresh information may arrive at New York Comic Con 2026. As announced by Viz Media and Shueisha, the franchise will host a panel on Oct. 10. The companies confirmed that the panel will reveal a “new project,” accompanied by the tagline, “Could this be the start of something big? Stay tuned for more.”
Fans have waited for substantial developments for over three years. While the 20th anniversary trailer created excitement, the lack of follow-up releases caused frustration. Most recent announcements focused on minor ventures such as video games and exhibitions rather than the expected animation.

The franchise is now approaching another major milestone. October 2027 will mark the 25th anniversary of the original television debut. During an investor Q&A in May, a TV Tokyo report revealed that the broadcaster has “several projects planned” for the anniversary, describing the milestone as “the beginning of a new stage.” TV Tokyo aired the original series in Japan, raising expectations that a major broadcast project is in development.
The anime industry has changed significantly since the original show aired. The weekly broadcast model, which caused irregular animation quality and required extensive filler material, has largely been replaced by seasonal releases. Studio Pierrot demonstrated its ability to handle modern production demands through its work on Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.
The upcoming announcement could align with several other major franchise returns. With Dragon Ball Super also returning this fall and a teased new Bleach project following Thousand-Year Blood War, 2027 could feature new releases from several foundational anime properties, alongside the ongoing remake of One Piece.
