This week’s musical landscape is dominated by a monumental return as a 16-time Grammy Award winner ends a decade-long solo hiatus. Leading the charge is Bruno Mars with his highly anticipated studio effort, The Romantic, marking his first full-length solo project since the 2016 cultural phenomenon 24K Magic.
The nine-track collection is a masterclass in contemporary soul, anchored by the sultry lead single “I Just Might,” which instantly claimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond the hits, the album explores diverse sonic textures, from the rhythmic bossa nova vibrations of “Cha Cha Cha” to the velvety R&B depths of “God Was Showing Off” and “Why You Wanna Fight?”
Joining him in the spotlight is the global powerhouse BLACKPINK. The quartet—featuring solo icons Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—has emerged from their own hiatus with DEADLINE, a five-track mini EP performed primarily in English. The project features the Diplo-produced adrenaline rush “Jump,” alongside the vibrant new single “Go,” which notably includes a co-writing contribution from Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
The week also sees a breathtaking release from British singer-songwriter RAYE. Her new power ballad, “Nightingale Lane,” is an evocative exploration of heartbreak, delivered with the kind of soaring, soulful vocals that offer a sense of catharsis. This track serves as the second preview of her upcoming sophomore album, This Music May Contain Hope, following her massive international success “Where Is My Husband!”
Further enriching the Friday lineup, pop-rock enthusiast Towa Bird unleashes the gritty, high-energy single “Gentleman.” Meanwhile, British vocalist Elmiene shares a double-feature from his forthcoming album Sounds for Someone, including the smooth “Honour” and the mid-tempo yearning of “I Want In.” Finally, Belgian pop sensation Angèle collaborates with legendary French duo Justice for the pulsing, bilingual dance track “What You Want.”
