Rod Stewart says he is recovering well after the heart procedure that led him to cancel the remaining dates of his North American tour in August.
Stewart spoke to The Daily Mail while leaving a showing of Sinatra The Musical in London with his wife, Penny Lancaster. “F–king brilliant!” he reportedly said of his health. “I swam 400 meters the other day,” he continued. That is about 1,312 feet.
Stewart canceled a concert in June one hour before showtime because of a reported acute upper respiratory infection. Two months later, he underwent a coronary stent procedure, and he ended the rest of his tour on doctor’s orders.
“Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities,” a statement read at the time. “On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.”
Stewart now plans a farewell tour next year, with dates set for April through July 2027. “Ladies and gentlemen, after much deliberation and sadness, I have to announce that next year will be my last tour ever,” he told fans on Instagram in September. “I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock n’ roll tour. So I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me and hopefully I’ve given you something in return.”
Lancaster reportedly told the tabloid that her husband will not stop making music. “He’s never retiring!” she said on the couple’s way to their car. “He’s going to be touring until 2028 doing the rock n’ roll and then he changes direction to the Great American Songbook.”
