Netflix to report theatrical box office results for the first time

Netflix has announced it will begin officially disclosing theatrical box office figures for its original films.

This new policy will apply to major titles slated for release during the 2026–2027 season, including:

• The awards-season contender “Black Ball,”

• Greta Gerwig’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,”

• David Fincher’s “The Further Misadventures of Cliff Booth,”

• The animated feature “Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory,”

• Danny Boyle’s biopic “Ink,”

• The war drama “The Mosquito Bowl,”

Historically, Netflix has rarely engaged with traditional box office metrics. The streamer previously topped the U.S. box office in August 2025 with the animated film “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” though it chose not to release official earnings at the time. Industry analysts estimated the film’s total gross at approximately $19 million.

Reports indicate that “Narnia” and “Black Ball” have set new benchmarks for Netflix’s theatrical windowing, with runs of 50 and 46 days, respectively, before transitioning to the streaming platform.
