According to Deadline, a new live-action series based on the Dungeons & Dragons franchise is in development for Netflix, titled Ravenloft.

Ravenloft is a renowned gothic horror campaign setting within the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The narrative will center on the legendary vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, chronicling his descent into becoming one of the most iconic villains in D&D lore.

This project replaces the previously announced 2025 series centered on the Forgotten Realms, which was slated to be produced by Shawn Levy (*Stranger Things*). Netflix has opted to pivot away from that concept to concentrate exclusively on the Ravenloft adaptation.

Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón (*Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban*, *Gravity*) has joined the project as an executive producer. The screenplay is being penned by John August, celebrated for his frequent collaborations with Tim Burton, including *Charlie and the Chocolate Factory* and *Big Fish*. An official release date has yet to be determined.

The Dungeons & Dragons franchise has seen several cinematic adaptations, most recently the 2023 film *Honor Among Thieves* starring Chris Pine, which grossed $205 million at the global box office.
