If you need a light, nostalgic palate cleanser between bigger RPGs, this remake offers precisely that: charming, bite-sized strategy fun.

After seeing The Roottrees Are Dead featured during MinnMax’s Give to the Max stream, I finally tried it — and I’m glad I did. Set in 1998, you play as a private investigator reconstructing a wealthy family’s genealogy using an era-accurate computer and search tools. The mystery is gripping, reminiscent of narrative-focused indies like Blue Prince and Immortality, and completing the first case unlocks a tougher second mystery that’s just as compelling. This quietly brilliant game flew under my radar earlier this year; don’t let it pass you by now.

The Outer Worlds 2 is already playable for players who purchased the Premium Edition, and it delivers a richly branching RPG experience. My review (8.75/10) praises its expanded Flaws system — optional handicaps that offer powerful benefits and make each playthrough feel personal — along with confident writing, varied approaches to objectives, and satisfying systems design. If you enjoyed Obsidian’s previous work, this sequel is likely to be a strong contender for your next big RPG.

If you’re craving a punishing action experience, Ninja Gaiden 4 returns to the series’ high-octane roots with blisteringly fast melee combat and long, intense combos. The focus is on precision and reflexes rather than complex storytelling, and the new protagonist Yakumo brings fresh energy to the battlegrounds. For players who relish tough, skill-based combat, this one’s a must-try.
