Move Aside, Battlefield: 2026’s Most Anticipated FPS Finally Has a Release Date

FPS enthusiasts who haven’t yet crossed paths with Wardogs will want to take note, as the tactical shooter finally has an official launch schedule. Developed by Bulkhead, the upcoming title arrives on Steam Early Access on Thursday, September 10, carrying a price tag of $39.99.

This announcement follows a successful closed alpha held from August 7 to 9, which drew overwhelmingly positive praise online, mirroring the reception of previous playtests. Prominent FPS content creator TheTacticalBrit suggested the project could achieve “incredible success,” highlighting its engaging “pick-up-and-play” nature and cinematic “wow moments” that set it apart from hyper-realistic military sims.

Echoing that sentiment, fellow creator GhostGamingGG remarked that piloting helicopters in Wardogs easily eclipses “the aerial mechanics found in Battlefield 6.” Meanwhile, Melandryu hailed the test weekend as one of the most rewarding beta experiences they have encountered in years.

Players who pre-order the game can also secure access to an upcoming closed beta weekend running from August 21 through 23. According to press materials, the event will let participants test out large-scale skirmishes, server stability, and core mechanics ahead of the early access debut.

Wardogs seeks to bridge the gap between mainstream, arcade-style shooters like Call of Duty and punishingly realistic tactical experiences such as Squad and Escape From Tarkov. Crafted by Bulkhead—the team behind Battalion 1944—the title introduces several unconventional ideas to the genre.

For instance, participants can act as arms merchants, supplying hardware directly to their squadmates. In-game currency plays a vital role, effectively allowing users to manage a virtual enterprise on the battlefield. In a conversation with Wardogs CEO Joe Brammer, he noted that the game caters wonderfully to older players because virtually every action—combat-oriented or otherwise—meaningfully contributes to the collective team objective, supported by an enduring progression system reminiscent of RuneScape.

Gamers won’t have to wait much longer to jump into the fray, though Wardogs will face stiff competition as it navigates a crowded September release window amid the looming shadow of GTA 6.
