Meghan Markle Excluded from New Season of “The Gentlemen”
Meghan Markle, who had been considered for a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen,” will no longer be joining the production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to drop the actress was prompted by intense public backlash in the United Kingdom.
Only a day earlier, it was reported that Markle was in advanced talks to join the cast, marking what would have been her most significant return to acting since her departure from “Suits” in 2018. Reports suggested that Ritchie had even tailored a character specifically for her. However, it is important to note that the third season of “The Gentlemen” has yet to be officially greenlit by Netflix, and no contract with Markle had been finalized.
Journalist Tina Brown was the first to report the cancellation of the plans. She indicated that the public sentiment toward the prospect of Markle joining the show was so overwhelmingly negative that continuing negotiations became untenable. Representatives for Markle, Netflix, and Guy Ritchie have declined to provide an official statement on the matter.
