We’re hard at work on the Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Today we’d like to introduce several members of the map design team who are shaping this expansion — each has a short message for our #BestCommunityEver.

Many colleagues across the studio contribute to this project, but here we highlight six of the map designers — part of a talented group of ten led by Ivo, including two external collaborators.

Ivo — Map Design Lead

“Iceland has always been a dream assignment for me. As Map Lead I’ve been involved since the project’s inception, and our aim is to capture the island’s distinctive character — winding secondary roads, wide vistas and sparsely populated stretches that offer a different driving experience from other regions. My interest in Old Norse history has helped when working with Icelandic place names and local references, which makes some tasks easier than for colleagues encountering them for the first time. Though the playable area is modest in size, faithfully constructing Iceland’s terrain is one of the most demanding challenges we’ve undertaken. My team and I are committed to recreating its rugged beauty for players to enjoy.”
Andrea

“Hello — I’m Andrea. My previous project here was the Nordic Horizons DLC, which was my first assignment and an enormous learning opportunity. I picked up a lot about our map editor, real-world locations and local traffic conventions, and I’ve brought that experience into designing Iceland’s landscapes. The island’s scenery is genuinely awe-inspiring, and we’re working to recreate that otherworldly atmosphere so players feel immersed from the first mile.”
Kirill

“I joined SCS in 2021 — almost by chance — and coming from a background as an enthusiastic gamer, I never expected to be helping craft game worlds professionally. It’s been an incredible experience. Working on Iceland, a place that sometimes seems almost extraterrestrial, has been especially inspiring. Building something beautiful and unique that players around the world can explore is deeply rewarding. I’m fortunate to work with talented colleagues in a well-equipped studio where we can focus on delivering the best possible experience.”
Johana

“I joined SCS in 2023 after finishing art school, eager for a role that would keep me creative. I’ve always enjoyed exploring and building in PC games, so crafting in-game worlds for a living feels like a dream. I’ve contributed to the Greece and Nordic Horizons DLCs, and each has taught me different lessons. Iceland’s stark geology, abundance of rocks and scarce tree cover are endlessly fascinating — and yes, I’ll be sneaking as many sheep into the map as possible.”
Ashley

“At the end of 2022 I took the leap to pursue my ambition to work in games — it meant moving away from home into an unfamiliar place, but it turned out to be the best decision I’ve made. I love designing roads with complex geometry: turns, gradients, and elevation changes, so Iceland has been a thrilling challenge. Initially the island’s environment felt confusing, but the more time I spent in the editor the more I appreciated its quirks. I can’t wait for players to explore what we’ve created. Follow your dreams and keep on truckin’.”
Anis
“Each DLC is a milestone for the studio and for our team members’ growth, and Iceland is a particularly distinctive project. Its dramatic mountains, countless waterfalls, fjords and narrow coastal roads required input from every department to create a cohesive and authentic experience. Beyond the landscapes, creating towns, ports and settlements that sit naturally within the environment allowed us to showcase Iceland’s variety while preserving its unique identity. We’re excited to share the finished DLC with the community.”
That’s all for now — we hope you’re as excited about this map expansion as we are. Please consider adding the Iceland DLC to your Steam wishlist. You can also follow us for updates on X/Twitter, Instagram , Facebook , Bluesky , and TikTok . To receive news directly, subscribe to our newsletter .
