Mattel Announces 3,509-Piece Original Xbox Building Set

The original Xbox is getting the brick treatment. Mattel Brick Shop has revealed a new kit that serves as a 1:1 scale replica of the classic system. Built to mark the console’s 25th anniversary, the 3,509-piece set includes the machine itself, the bulky Duke controller, and mini dioramas based on classic games.

Those dioramas draw from three defining releases: Halo: Combat Evolved, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. The scenes and character figures slot directly inside the chassis. Builders can slide out sections of the console to reveal Master Chief fighting the Flood alongside other game moments. Interactivity extends beyond the display pieces, as pressing buttons on the Duke controller triggers lights and sound effects for each diorama, and opening the console plays the original Xbox boot audio.

The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft Xbox Building Toy Kit is priced at $324.99 and launches on Oct. 1, 2026.

Even though three games are showcased in the set, Microsoft no longer owns one of the studios responsible for them. Following a broad round of layoffs that cut more than 3,000 employees, Microsoft parted ways with Psychonauts creator Double Fine. After regaining independence, Double Fine cut 23 staff members, amounting to roughly a quarter of its workforce.

The gaming brick landscape has grown competitive in recent years. Lego previously collaborated with Nintendo to release building sets of retro hardware, including the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Game Boy, and a Donkey Kong arcade cabinet, alongside kits for Sega Genesis hardware. Lego has also produced sets centered around Mario, Pokémon, and The Legend of Zelda.

Microsoft has teamed up with Mattel on multiple gaming products instead. In addition to a Halo toy line, the partnership includes an upcoming Warthog-themed Brick Shop set, bringing the hardware rivalry into toy aisles.
