Marvel Tōkon PC Player Count Drops Sharply Since Launch
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has experienced a steep drop in concurrent players on Steam, with peak player numbers falling from nearly 25,000 to 809 roughly six weeks after release.
At the time of writing, 637 people were playing the game. Meanwhile, the PS5 version holds a score of 85 on Metacritic and 94% on OpenCritic, whereas the PC launch was hindered by technical issues. Only 44% of Steam reviews were positive initially, and that figure has now risen to approximately 49%.
According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, Marvel Tōkon has sold around 740,000 copies across all platforms. This data is unofficial. By comparison, Guilty Gear Strive sold over 500,000 copies in about a month after its release and maintains a higher daily peak concurrent player count on Steam five years later.
Technical shortcomings remain the primary issue for the PC version. The developers have released several updates, but users continue to report performance problems. Regional Steam restrictions and the requirement for a PlayStation account to use online features have sparked additional controversy.
Producer Takeshi Yamanaka has already apologized for the state of the game at launch. Content for Marvel Tōkon is scheduled through September 2027.
