Marvel Rivals’ Newest Character Looks Overpowered in the Best Way Possible

NetEase has unveiled the roadmap for Marvel Rivals Season 8.5, with the standout arrival of the midseason update being none other than Cyclops. If you find yourself in his crosshairs, he is nothing short of a nightmare to deal with.

<p>As a Duelist, Cyclops focuses on precise, optic-blast-heavy gameplay, yet he distinguishes himself from other marksmen like Hawkeye. His kit features a ricochet beam that bounces between nearby targets, dealing significant damage. With two charges at his disposal, players can weave this ability into their standard rotations for maximum pressure. For mobility, he utilizes a laser-propelled retreat that launches him backward—an excellent tactical tool for repositioning or diving into the fray. While it mirrors Elsa’s movement, he lacks her defensive overhealth, meaning overcommitting will lead to a swift respawn. Despite his high skill ceiling, he feels like a well-balanced addition to the roster.</p>

<p>Then there is his ultimate ability. If you are familiar with <em>Overwatch</em>, it bears a striking resemblance to Vendetta’s kit. Cyclops charges a concentrated beam that fires in a straight line, piercing both enemies and environmental barriers like Groot’s walls. While it might feel familiar, its utility in <em>Marvel Rivals</em> is massive. Many ultimates in the game can be easily evaded by airborne heroes, but Cyclops’ beam is designed to punish those flying high. Flyers, take note: you aren't as safe as you think.</p>

<p>Beyond the new hero, Season 8.5 introduces the K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena map and the chaotic 18v18 "Bounty Annihilation" game mode. Players can also look forward to a summer-themed social hub, Hellfire Bay Beach, along with a seasonal event showcasing new swimsuit skins. Additionally, between June 12 and June 26, NetEase is opening the "616 Vault," allowing players to unlock legacy cosmetics from the July–September 2025 event cycle.</p>
